Mitigating Barn Owl-vehicle collisions on the South West Strategic Road Network (free)

In 2021, the Barn Owl Trust was funded by Kier Highways to produce a guidance document identifying sections of the South West Strategic Road Network where Barn Owl-vehicle collisions were most frequent, and proposing mitigation measures for those sections. Our research found that collisions were more likely where roads are raised by embankments and where there is long grass on verges. Collisions were less likely where scrub covers the verges, preventing Barn Owls from hunting there.
