This is how we partitioned off a well-used roosting and nesting site in the attic of an occupied house, to create a nesting space for Barn Owls. Easy human access is essential for occasional cleaning out (not when the owls are nesting). The owls have access through a small hole to the outside, which can be seen in the photos.

- The nest is in the far left corner.
- First we built a framework. of 50x50mm timber
- Then covered it in hardboard.
- Note that we made the access hatch as big as possible.
