Coronavirus – Covid-19 Update

Owls In Barn Owl Trust Sanctuary 01

Our Conservation Enquiries Service is back!

If you cannot find the answer to your Barn Owl question on our website, you can now call our office 5 days a week:

Monday to Friday 10am – 4pm.

In order to be Covid-safe and to reduce travel time and emissions, we have opened our office with a reduced number of staff, while some of our team are working from home, answering our Internet-based phone number: 01364 255 256 between 10am and 4pm. At other times, please leave us a message.

Our Events have restarted and we are doing everything we can to keep our supporters as Covid-safe as possible.

Our nestbox team are working hard to make sure all orders are fulfilled: currently there maybe an up to two-week wait on nestboxes.

Our essential conservation work goes on – such as managing our wildlife haven for Barn Owls, creating diverse habitat for a wonderful array of native plants and flowers, insects, butterflies, birds and other wildlife.
Read our Wildlife Diary to find out what else is happening in ‘Barn Owl Heaven’!

Due to Covid, Self-Isolation, and a backlog, we are not currently able to deal with new conservation enquiries. There is, however, a wealth of information here on our website.

In 33 years, this is only the second time that our enquiry service has been suspended.

If your enquiry concerns an injured owl or a nest under immediate threat please email david @ barnowltrust.org.uk

Thank you for your patience.

Update 4th November 2020Barn Owl Trust In Search Of Prey A6 Card

We are dealing with enquiries 5 days a week:
Monday to Friday 10am – 4pm.

Having arranged for staff to return to work their normal hours at the beginning of November the latest lockdown has meant we, like many others, have had to adjust and most staff are again working reduced hours and working from home.

We will continue to deal with conservation enquiries and look after our resident birds and casualties. During this period we will be using our internet based phone number 01364 255256 which will be answered between 10am and 4pm Monday to Friday. If you can’t get through please leave a message and someone will get back to you. Email enquiries can be sent at anytime to info@barnowltrust.org.uk and like messages they will be dealt with during these hours, however it may take a bit longer than usual.

For Christmas we recommend our ‘Owl Aid Gifts’ as an environmentally friendly present that supports Barn Owls and is totally ‘Covid safe’.

We have temporarily suspended most of our shop items but are still sending out Christmas cards, reuse labels and nestboxes. We are offering Barn Owl Adoptions and a range of other ways to support our work with Barn Owls, however, some orders may take longer than usual. We are working hard to restore normal service, hopefully at the beginning of December.

There are regular updates on our Facebook page  where you can read about our work including the release of ‘Erica’ the wild Barn Owl. Our Wildlife Diary will also give you the latest news from the Trust’s nature reserve.

If you are lucky enough to spot a Barn Owl please report it on our survey website.

Stay safe!

Update 8th September 2020

We are now dealing with enquiries 5 days a week:
Monday to Friday 10am – 4pm.

Please bear with us as we are still working at reduced staffing capacity and some staff are working from home.  Due to social distancing we have fewer people in the office at any one time and we are trialling an internet based telephone system with an alternative phone number 01364 255256 for anyone having problems getting through on our old number.

Our on-line shop has reopened and we are now taking nestbox orders again.

Stay safe.

Update 18th August 2020

Great news! We are working hard setting up a new system to answer our telephone on Monday and Tuesday between 10am and 4pm. Any messages left outside of these times will be dealt with then. In September we hope to be able to deal with enquiries Monday – Friday between 10am and 4pm.  There will also be a greater ability to deal with email enquiries to info@barnowltrust.org.uk

Please note: to allow for social distancing, we will be running at reduced staffing capacity. Please bear with us and we will get back to you as soon as we possibly can.

We also hope to have the website shop active soon and to take nestbox pre-orders for delivery mid- September.

Stay safe.

Update 9th July 2020

A small number of our staff have been working from home since March and this week we have brought others back part-time to prepare the office for socially distant working. We are hoping to be able to start dealing with telephone enquiries again by August and are waiting for a new telephone system to be installed.  We plan for more staff  to return to work part-time in August.

Meanwhile our resident owls are being cared for and doing well. We have made several visits to wild sites because of emergencies and are maintaining our management and monitoring work in the Lennon Legacy Project. There are regular updates on our Facebook page.

As of 24th March the Barn Owl Trust office has been shut down to protect our staff and volunteers. Sales of nestboxes and other goods have been suspended. We apologise that we are unable to deal with post or telephone enquiries for the time being.

Barn Owl Trust Doreen

If you have Barn Owl questions hopefully you can find the answer on our website. There are lots of videos including ones to help you make nestboxes or tell you how to pick up and examine an injured owl.

We will try to deal with enquiries by email, social media and from the website but at this time we are not sure we will have the capacity to do this, so please be patient. Please rest assured that our resident birds are being well looked after and we will continue to receive casualties.

Stay well and thank you for your support.

UPDATE 12th May 2020 Most of our staff are still furloughed with just a core and volunteers working to ensure our essential tasks are done and our owls cared for. As new cases of Covid 19 are still being reported in our area we will continue to monitor the situation and will reopen when we feel it is safe to do so. Meanwhile we are endeavouring to keep our social media channels and Wildlife Diary updated.

We’d like to say a big thank you to those people that have continued to support us during this difficult time.

Please continue to report Barn Owl sightings at https://www.barnowlsurvey.org.uk/
