The day is comprised of three main parts, the first being an illustrated presentation about the Barn Owl and its preferred habitat, the value of nestboxes and methods of construction and erection. After lunch there is a practical exercise where the participants convert a tea chest into an indoor Barn Owl nestbox using wood provided. Once the nestboxes are completed, there is a visit to a local farm where there are demonstrations of how to put up a box, in both traditional and modern barns.
The workshops are popular with and suitable for all ages, we have had participants from 8 - 80.
Throughout the day there are plenty of opportunities to ask questions, browse through the sales goods and free information leaflets, and enjoy the tea and coffee provided. There is a charge for these workshops to cover the cost of materials, overheads and a contribution towards staff time.
If you would like to find out about future events or if you are involved with an organisation that may be interested in holding one with us, please contact the Trust.
NOTE: There are no live Barn Owls displayed at these events.
If you don't have the time or inclination to attend a workshop you can buy a purpose built box from the Trust.
There is more information on nestboxes for Barn Owls and other topics in the Barn Owl Conservation Handbook
