Three of a kind

Fortunately a lot of the wild Barn Owls that come here recover sufficiently to be released back into their natural habitat. Other birds are unable to survive in the wild mainly as a result of road traffic accidents or injuries sustained from barbed wire fences and overhead cables.

We also care for captive-bred birds that are too tame to be released. Many have been discarded - some have just been left to starve to death. Individual Barn Owls can live for 10, 15, or even 20 years in captivity.

A special gift

People often adopt Barn Owls as Christmas presents or to commemorate birthdays, anniversaries and retirements. If you wish to do this, we can enclose a greetings card and post the adoption pack to arrive on a special day. Please give us as much notice as possible - 10 days minimum.

If you are ordering for a UK Christmas present and wish to delay delivery until just before Christmas please tell us by putting a note to this effect in the Message Box. The gift will then be posted on the 15th of December 2014.

If you are a UK taxpayer, any donation you make can be increased by 25p for every £1 if you complete a gift aid declaration. If you make a donation of £10 we can claim an additional £2.50 from the Inland Revenue. If you make a donation of £100 then the amount we can claim back is £25.

If you lead a busy life but you want to do something worthwhile for wildlife, adopt an owl.

Add a gift for an extra £5.

You can adopt a Barn Owl for just £35 a year and for an extra £5 you can add a gift option of either:

Owlet gift option
  • A cuddly soft toy owlet complete with its own nestbox or,

Adoption enviro option
  • An enviro goody bag. A washable unbleached cotton bag printed on one side with a unique Barn Owl Trust design and containing a pack of reuse address labels, a recycled pen and pencil and a Barn Owl Trust note pad.

Sanctuary

Our Sanctuary in South Devon is home to many Barn Owls. We house these birds in large aviaries, provide them with food, shelter, medical attention if required and a quiet life. A year's adoption costs less than 60p per week - but to the Barn Owl, your help is priceless.

We are sorry, but you cannot visit the sanctuary as it is on private land with no public access. It is a place of peace and refuge for the owls, and disturbance is kept to an absolute minimum. Although we do not have a visitor centre, you can always come along to a LLP (Lennon Legacy Project) Event to see our work at first-hand and meet our staff see Forthcoming Events. Please note: We do not display live birds.

We are always looking for people to help with survey work and so on. We also have volunteer activity days such as the Hedge Coppicing event and Bracken Bashing - keep your eye on the Forthcoming Events listings for details.

The Barn Owl Trust is dedicated to conservation & education and does not operate a visitor centre.
