Habitat Management. This leaflet describes Barn Owl habitat and explains the best ways to manage it.

RSPB/BOT Leaflet Farming for birds - Barn Owl. This leaflet provides information on the ecology of the Barn Owl, what Barn Owls need (nest/roosting sites and habitat) to increase their numbers and what farmers and land owners can do to achieve this.

Nestboxes for use in barns & other buildings. This leaflet describes how to make and erect a Barn Owl nestbox suitable for a barn or other building. It includes plans, dimensions, materials and safety advice. This leaflet features the "deep nestbox design" which is much safer (for the emerging young owls) than most other designs. Highly recommended.

Nestboxes for use on trees. This leaflet describes how to make and erect a Barn Owl nestbox suitable for erection on the side of a tree trunk or within the branches of a large tree. This box design can also be used on the outside wall of a building but this is not recommended unless there is no other option available. The information includes plans, dimensions, materials and safety advice.

Nestboxes for use on Poles. This leaflet describes how to make a Barn Owl nestbox suitable for erection on a large telegraph pole. The information includes plans, dimensions, materials, safety advice and erection tips.

Rodent Control. This leaflet provides information on minimising the risks to Barn Owls whilst controlling mice and rats. It lists rodenticide products, indicating which ones are less likely to kill Barn Owls and a new non-toxic product that's now available.

Barn Conversions. This leaflet describes the effects of barn conversions on Barn Owls and how to minimise them. It also gives information on making provision for Barn Owls in barn conversions or other dwellings. A quick reference guide to Barn Owls and planning is included. For more detailed information please refer to our guidance "Barn Owls and Rural Planning Applications -a Guide", published by BOT with funding and support by Natural England.

Safeguarding Wild Sites. This leaflet provides basic - but important - information for the owners or guardians of wild Barn Owl nest or roost sites. Recommended reading for anyone who keeps an eye on an occupied Barn Owl site.

How to Prevent Drowning. This leaflet provides information on why Barn Owls are sometimes found dead in steep-sided water containers (cattle troughs etc.) and describes how to make a simple float that will help to prevent such deaths.

Erecting your Nestbox. This leaflet provides information on how and where to place Barn Owl nestboxes. Nestbox erections in both buildings and trees are discussed and elementary advice on saftey is included.

Feeding Barn Owls. This leaflet provides information on food for wild or captive Barn Owls. It explains what food to use, where to obtain it, dietary supplements and some safety and hygiene precautions.
