Welcome toThe Barn Owl Trust
The Barn Owl Trust is a registered charity dedicated to conserving the Barn Owl and its environment and is the main source of Barn Owl information in the UK. The Barn Owl Trust's educational work began in 1989 and we now also run training courses for ecological consultants and planning officers. We carry out surveys of old buildings due for development, and advise on Barn Owl mitigation measures. Our booklet 'Barn Owls on Site, a guide for developers and planners', published by English Nature is widely used by local authorities and other official bodies.
Our published research projects cover subjects such as the effect of barn conversions on Barn Owls, road mortality, the survival of released Barn Owls, rehabilitation and release methods, as well as county surveys. We have erected over 2,000 nestboxes and are closely involved in habitat creation both on our own land and through farm visits.
We work alongside Natural England, the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO), Hawk and Owl Trust, Barn Owl Conservation Network (BOCN) and the RSPB. We also take in casualties and run a genuine owl sanctuary (a place of peaceful retreat that's not open to the public). The Barn Owl Trust is at the centre of Barn Owl conservation in the UK.
The Barn Owl Trust is dedicated to conservation & education and does not operate a visitor centre.
